ASU Police's own Clery 60-day log (Aug. 14 to Oct. 13, 2026) lists 430 cases, including 8 reports of sexual assault or sexual abuse, about 20 assaults and fights, and 59 bike, e-bike and scooter thefts. 234 entries are marked "No Solvability Factors (Inactive)," meaning police found no leads to pursue.
Tempe Police arrested hundreds of underage drinkers in raids near ASU in 2024 and 2025, including 173 in one raid at Tempe Tavern in spring 2025 and 249 people under 21 in a second raid there in November 2025, mostly for fake IDs and underage drinking. Tempe Tavern, a longtime college-crowd bar near Apache Boulevard and McClintock Drive, abruptly closed in September 2026.
ASU's own annual security reports show the Tempe campus recorded 30 rape reports, 33 fondling reports and 3 statutory rape reports from 2018 to 2021, more than any other ASU campus. Six sexual-violence reports there were classified as unfounded.
The U.S. Department of Education found ASU violated federal law by requiring a student who reported a rape in February 2020 to sign a nondisclosure agreement before she could see the written findings of her disciplinary hearing. The notice also gave no clear reasoning for the outcome and didn't mention her right to appeal.
A State Press investigation found ASU recorded 68 rapes from 2017 to 2019. Of the 11 cases ASU Police referred to the county attorney, all 11 were refused. Since 2014, 277 sexual assaults were reported to the university, 147 were investigated, and fewer than half of the 101 formal cases could have ended in punishment.
