The U.S. Department of Education found ASU violated federal law by requiring a student who reported a rape in February 2020 to sign a nondisclosure agreement before she could see the written findings of her disciplinary hearing. The notice also gave no clear reasoning for the outcome and didn't mention her right to appeal.

The department flagged special concern that ASU tried to put conditions on the student's adviser after the case ended. A Clery Act expert called the conduct highly illegal. ASU was not fined but had to rewrite its policies.

ASU's side / contextASU said it has a robust system for sexual assault cases, engaged with the department right away and made the required changes.
